Dreamy daisy cotton coaster beginner punch needle kit

Freshen up your home for Spring with a new set of cute coasters on your coffee table. Textiles are one of the quickest (and cheapest) ways to change up your interior. Think cushions, coasters, throws and rugs, much easier than getting the paint tin and roller out and they can totally transform a room. What could be better than changing it up with your own handmade textiles. We recently launched a new beginner kit to make your own set of four, cotton punch needle coasters in a cute, Springy daisy design. The kits includes everything you need to get started and is a great project for a beginner who wants to learn how to make something practical. Also a great gift for the interiors lover with a well crafted home…

What’s included in the coaster kit

This coaster punch needle kit is small and perfectly formed. All of the materials include have been chosen for their high quality and ease of use. Included in the kit is enough linen fabric and 100% cotton yarn to make four coasters. However you’ll be able to use the Lavor fine punch needle Morgan no slip gripper hoop for other projects like the festive baubles.

The Lavor fine punch needle includes three different needle tips allowing you to use a range of different fibres from embroidery floss to aran weight yarn. This is a great punch needle set for exploring different textures and creating pieces with finer detail. The handle of the punch needle is lightweight and comfortable to use, made from recycled plastic in Portugal.

The yarn is aran weight, 100% cotton spun from multiple thin strands of cotton; a great option if you do not want to use a yarn including animal products or if you have sensitive skin since the yarn does not itch or irritate. The 100% cotton punch needle yarn is made in the EU and is Oeko-Tex® certified. This means that it has been tested and found completely free from harmful chemicals and that it is safe for human use.

The Morgan gripper hoop is a no-slip hoop with a patented tongue and groove feature which keeps your fabric taut, making it perfect for holding your material in place when using a punch needle.

The base fabric for the coasters is a linen mix loose weave fabric suitable for punch needle. Linen is an alternative foundation fabric which can be used for punch needle and rug hooking. If you have already experimented with monks cloth, you'll find that this linen punch needle fabric has similar qualities. It's neutral, natural colour lends itself well to projects where you would like to leave part of the background exposed. It has an even weave similar to monks cloth.

All materials are presented in a Whole Punching printed cotton drawstring bag and wrapped in beautiful recyclable packaging, making them perfect to send direct to a lucky recipient.

Choose the colours of your coasters

The coaster kit is available in two different colourways; Lilac and Dark Grey or Light Blue and Mint Green. The Light Blue and Mint Green are the most beautiful pastel shades conjuring up images of gin and tonic in the garden or on a terrace. The Lilac and Dark Grey are a little more sophisticated and muted and feel slightly warmer in tone. All have the same simple daisy motif repeated so match wonderfully together.

Why not make a matching punch needle cushion

The daisy motif is part of a larger design which can be found on the cotton floral punch needle cushion. This pattern is a little more challenging and would suit a maker who already has had some experience with punch needle. The floral design is fairly intricate which isn’t too difficult to punch but can take a bit of time to refine when tidying up the loop stitches. By making all four of the cotton coasters this would give you the confidence to take on this larger project.

Other botanical punch needle kits

I am a lover of all things botanical and many of the punch needle kit designs tend to lean that way. This is perfect for bringing the outdoors in, or if you love plants but just can’t keep them alive. Create your own botanical punch needle designs, add some gorgeous dried flowers and you’ll look much more green fingered than brown.
