A private punch needle lesson

Over the past few years I have enjoyed teaching punch needle to a number of students privately.

I have decided to open up a limited number of sessions to work with me personally. I have initially set these as 2 hour sessions but these can be increased if necessary.

There could be a number of reasons why you would choose to work with me privately over attending a workshop:

  • you have a specific punch needle project you require help with
  • you want to learn about a specific punch needle technique
  • you find it easier to learn in a 1-2-1 setting

These lessons could be in person at my home studio in Coventry, or alternatively we could work together online. Please note that I do live with two cats, so an in-person lesson may not be suitable for you if you are allergic. My home is fully accessible and parking on a drive is available.

Once you have booked your date I will be in touch to discuss what you would like to cover in the session, whether you would like to work together in-person or online and if you require any additional time.

Private punch needle sessions available

  • Friday 10 November / 10:00 - 12:00 (GMT)
  • Friday 24 November / 13:00 - 15:00 (GMT)

About me

I (Sara) am a Certified Oxford Punch Needle Rug Hooking Instructor. I travelled to Vermont to study with Amy Oxford and Heidi Whipple at the Oxford Rug Hooking School and qualified in the autumn of 2019. I am one of handful of certified instructors who are based outside of North America. I have been punching since 2017 and I enjoy nothing more than sharing my love for the craft with others and generally just chatting about yarn.

Cancellation

Tickets are non-refundable but should you not be able to attend, we can work together to find an alternative date.

Private one to one

I really enjoyed my lesson with Sara. I chose one-to-one because of the location was more convenient than the workshops & I learnt so much in the time, I’m glad I booked it. I was struggling with ‘off the shelf’ high street kits and couldn’t understand why I was finding punch needle so hard! Sara taught me all the basics and how to get started properly, the difference in yarns, needles, base cloths and frames. I came away able to finish the design easily at home and with enough knowledge to be confident in the basics so I can start new projects by myself. I will be back with Sara to learn more advanced techniques. Thoroughly recommend!

Private Punch Needle Tutoring

I had a one-to-one lesson with Sara to learn to use to the Oxford punch needle I’d received for Christmas. Sara is so warm and friendly and personable - I felt completely at ease with her straight away. She knows everything there is to know about punch needle and explained it all so clearly, going through each step of the process from setting up to finishing, answering all my questions and providing lots of tips and tricks along the way. The gripper strip frame, monks cloth, and yarn we used in the session (and which I’ve purchased) were all of beautiful quality. I feel so much more confident after my session with Sara and would 100% recommend a one-to-one!

Private tuition with Sara

Sara taught myself and my two children punch needle She was brilliant at explaining how to do it, taking it at everyone's pace and developing our knowledge. The materials are excellent quality and it is something we have all gone on to develop and use. I highly recommend Sara and learning punch needle.

Private tuition

I reached out to Sara for some private tuition as I was wanting to create a large rug and needed some help to set up, plan and create it. I had some experience of needle punching from kits that I'd bought from her and a couple of workshops I'd done.

Upon reaching out to Sara she was very accommodating and we managed to find a date that suited us both. She advised me what I needed to bring with me for the session as well as what sorts of things I needed to think about beforehand for the rug. She was patient and informative and helped me enormously with the initial stages. She also helped me think about the progress, how to move the project around the gripper frame and how to finish the project upon completion.

We both have very different colour palettes but Sara was flexible and tolerant when we played around with different colours to find something that worked well and made a harmonious mix. I used two different types and weights of yarn and she helped me to understand how this could be worked into the design and pattern.

All in all it was a good investment of both time and money as it allowed me to ask questions, get useful advise, as well as have someone checking my technique and helping me to improve. I would definitely recommend getting tuition from Sara.
