Oxford fine punch needles
The Oxford fine punch needle is designed for finer yarns and more detailed punch needle projects. Available in five sizes, each needle creates a different fixed loop height.
Like the regular Oxford range, fine Oxford punch needles are self threading, with a comfortable wooden handle and polished stainless steel needle. Their narrower needle makes them a good choice when you want to work with lighter yarns, create smaller loops or add finer detail than you would achieve with a regular Oxford punch needle.

How do you tell the difference between the sizes?
The number is laser etched onto the metal needle tip. Older styles of the punch needle have it engraved onto the wooden handle.
How do you tell the difference between fine and regular Oxford needles?
The fine punch needles have a small metal ring at the base of the wooden handle. This small ring helps to guide the yarn and keep it in the channel.
Do Oxford punch needles require a threader?
No they are self threading so do not require a separate threader.
What projects suit fine punch needles?
The fine punch needles use aran or worsted weight yarn. They are predominantly used for smaller projects like coasters or wall hangings. The fine needles are useful for lettering and small details.
Do I need a stitch gauge?
Unlike the regular punch needle you'll tend to only do a small stitch with the fine punch needles. Therefore it's less important to use a stitch gauge. Still useful when you're getting started and worth holding onto for use with the regular punch needles.
Can I use the same yarn in each fine punch needle?
Yes use aran or worsted weight yarn in all of your fine punch needles, regardless of the loop height.
Are Oxford needles better than Lavor?
It comes down to personal preference. Some prefer the Oxford needle as they have a thicker handle which can be more ergonomic than the Lavor. This means it's comfortable for extended periods of use.
However, others prefer that the Lavor punch needles are adjustable allowing you to create multiple loop heights with just one needle.
There's also no moving parts to break in an Oxford and a lifetime money back guarantee!
Is it left handed?
All Oxford punch needles can be used in either hand. If you're lucky enough to be ambidextrous you'll be able to get twice the punching done!
Which fine size should I pick as a beginner?
The fine #10 is a useful size for a beginner. The loops are shorter enough to be neat whilst not being too long to become unwieldy.
The #13 and #14 are very popular but can be a little tricky for a beginner as the loops are so short. Make sure to punch all the way down to the handle each time and this should help.
